Meet founder owner blondies spa salon Lindsey Babinec

A Word from Blondie:

Growing up, I was often teased about my pale skin and freckles. Being the only fair one in my family (where I got the nickname Blondie), I suffered horrible sunburns as a kid. This resulted in having cancerous spots on my face as a young adult and seeking help from dermatologists and estheticians. I felt a bit frustrated about how my (and my parents') lack of knowledge around how to care for my skin had resulted in expensive and painful treatments to get rid of the cancerous spots.

When I made the decision to open my spray tanning business, originally I was just determined to help people feel more confident in their own skin. I had discovered how much I enjoyed the convenience and results of spray tanning for myself and thought many others could benefit from a high-quality spray tan option that looked just like a real tan.

As my business blossomed and I thought about ways I could continue to help my community, I decided that I wanted to become a licensed esthetician. I wanted to provide people with the knowledge they needed to be able to take care of themselves and their loved ones so that they could have the healthiest skin possible.

Fast forward to today and that’s how we still approach every service we offer at Blondie’s. While our service menu has grown to include salon and medspa services, we still believe in empowering our customers with the knowledge they need to be the healthiest, most confident version of themselves.

But we don’t just empower our customers here at Blondie’s…

We empower our team through advanced education, including our apprenticeship program. This program walks new cosmetology and esthetic school graduates through everything we believe to be essential in being successful in this career field. We also provide one-on-one career coaching to our team so that they can become the Top 1% of beauty professionals in the US. We have been honored by Salon Today magazine for the last four years as a Top 200 Salon in the U.S. for our growth and company culture.

We volunteer our time to give women recovering from addiction in our local community beauty services, so that as they graduate the program and begin interviewing for jobs, they can feel their most confident.

And last, but certainly not least—we have donated over $30,000 (and growing!) to our community through local non-profit organizations, specifically those that impact women and children.

Blondie’s began when my daughter, Delaney, was 5 months old, and now she works here as a lash artist, with plans to attend esthetics school in the near future. My husband, Gene, manages our inventory, and my son, Grady, works as a concierge for our front desk team. So when we say, thank you for supporting this local, family-owned business, we really mean it. You are helping us create a legacy for this community that we hope lives on for many years to come.

With love and gratitude,

Lindsey Babinec

Where It All Began...

Technically, it all began in a pop-up tan tent, but after a year or so we moved into “the tan van.” During this time, I had the pleasure of working with many pageants throughout Indiana, including the Miss IU pageant and Miss Indiana pageant.

After attending esthetics school, I opened my first location on the corner of California and 25th St. During this time, I had my first celebrity client, Amber from MTV’s Teen Mom. After leasing a couple more locations in Columbus, we were finally able to realize our dream of owning our own building in beautiful downtown Columbus! We renovated this historic building and moved into this location in April 2023.
