Permanent Lip Color: Pre-Care Instructions for Lip Blushing Procedure
Two-Weeks Prior to Procedure
- If you’ve ever had a cold sore, you should start taking a preventative dose of Acyclovir or Valtrex, since lip tattooing can perpetuate a zoster outbreak if you’ve had them in the past. You should continue this dose until your lip tattoo is fully healed.
One Week Prior to Appointment
- Discontinue Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior to treatment.
24-Hours Before Appointment
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Aspirin, or Ibuprofen for 24 hours before the procedure.
Day of Appointment
- Thoroughly read all the forms given to you at the time of your appointment and ask any questions you may have.
- Be sure to advise us of any allergies, medical conditions, prior permanent eyebrow make-up and prescriptions you take prior to your appointment.
- If you wish to bring your favorite lipstick/lip gloss, we can use it to help match your ideal lip color.
Contraindications
Unfortunately, not everyone is a good fit for the lip blushing procedure. This procedure is inadvisable for those with certain conditions such as:
- Children under the age of 18
- Pregnant or lactating women
- Diabetes
- Glaucoma
- Skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema and undiagnosed rashes or blisters on the site that is to be treated
- History of cold sores (if so, consult with your physician. Many clients avoid cold sore breakouts by taking a Valtrex cycle prior to their appointment.
- Allergies to makeup or colors
- Easily triggered post inflammatory hyper pigmentation
- Transmittable blood conditions like HIV or Hepatitis
- Active skin cancer in the area to be tattooed
- Hemophiliac
- Healing disorders
- Blood thinners (consult with your physician)
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure or mitral valve disorder
- Accutane or steroids (consult with your physician)
